Featured Frame
This frame came to us with some damage. We repaired the damage, primed it, and then gilded it with imitation gold leaf.
The Finish: The original finish was a slightly darker color gold. Thefinish that we went with is a little brighter imitation gold leaf over a red primer base coat. We applied two coats of an acrylic final sealer. We visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and researched how their paintings by Alfred Sisley are framed. After studying their Sisley paintings and frames, we were inspired to add a linin liner to set the painting off.
The Art: The painting is called The Seine Has the Bouille, Gale (French: La Seine à la Bouille, coup de vent). It was painted by Alfred Sisley in 1894. The original painting is oil-on-canvas. La Bouille is a village in France on the bank of the river Seine, not far from Rouen. The painting can be found in the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen.
The Artist: Alfred Sisley was born in Paris in 1839; he died in 1899. Sisley was an Impressionist landscape painter who spent most of his life in France, but retained British citizenship. He was the most consistent of the Impressionists in his dedication to painting landscape en plein air (in plain air).
