Artist Statement

Darla Zook grew up in the wide-open spaces of western Oklahoma and now lives in rural Missouri.  Her love and appreciation of the great outdoors is captured in her paintings of the ever-changing seasons and activities of the Midwest.  Faith and family add to her inspiration.

Earning a Master’s Degree in art with an emphasis on transparent watercolor, Darla taught art in the public school system for twenty-nine years.  She was commissioned to illustrate the book The Yoder Outsiders by James Yoder, featuring both watercolor and pen and ink mediums.  Wayside Rest, her painting of a local historical site, was used on the back cover of one of D.L. Rogers’s books: Treachery at Midnight.  Throughout 2010-2018, Darla was invited to demonstrate and display her artwork in the Silver Dollar City Annual Harvest Festival.  As an award winning artist, she continues to exhibit in many juried and invitational shows, as well as create commissioned work.

Darla is a Charter and Signature Member of Missouri Valley Impressionist Society, Juried Member of Best of Missouri Hands, a member of Harrisonville Fine Arts Association, and Albrecht-Kemper Museum Artist Society.
